A Bridge to Scientific Discovery

Five people lined up wearing hard hats and holding shovels at the groundbreaking of The Nucleus science building.

On May 13, 2022, ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú and Scripps College officially broke ground on an ambitious new science center and building expansion project slated to open fall 2024.

The multimillion-dollar joint initiative will create a â€”dubbed The Nucleus—next to the existing science structure. The Nucleus will feature additional teaching laboratories, classrooms, collaborative learning spaces, community courtyards and plazas, an art installation, and a greenhouse.

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Trustee Jonathan Graham ’82 and his wife, Elizabeth Ulmer, recently made a substantial donation to support ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú and Scripps College’s joint initiative to invigorate, expand, and reimagine the science program for the two campuses.

The Nucleus and the existing science building will be connected by a bridge to serve as a symbol of the bond between past and future scientific discovery.
