Required Ethics Training
Principal investigators and all individuals involved in the research must complete the CITI Ethics Training offered online through . However, faculty have an alternative option to complete ethics training through (Lessons 1-3). All certificates generated by the online training programs must accompany the application for IRB review.
CITI and HHS certificates are accepted for up to 5 years.
CITI ethics training instructions:
- Log in to your CITI account at
- If you don鈥檛 have a CITI account OR if your existing account is not already linked to CGU, you will need to do the following:
- Click on 鈥淟og In Through My Organization鈥 listed at the top menu.
- Next, type 鈥淐laremont Graduate University鈥 as your 鈥淥rganization Affiliation鈥 and select 鈥淐laremont Graduate University鈥 from the automated drop-down list. Then click 鈥淐ontinue to SSO Login / Instructions.鈥
- From there, you will be directed to authenticate using your college credentials on The Claremont Colleges Central Authentication Service.
- Next, you will be prompted to indicate whether or not you already have a CITI account. If you don鈥檛, you will go through the process of creating one. If you do, you will be able to link your account with the Claremont Colleges.
- Go to 鈥淢y Courses鈥 and scroll to the bottom
- Click on 鈥淎dd a Course鈥
- You will be asked a series of 6 questions that will help you determine which courses to take (make sure you are enrolled in Social and Behavioral Research 鈥 Basic/Refresher)
- Competed courses will show a 鈥渧iew 鈥 print 鈥 share鈥 option. You can either 鈥渧iew/print鈥 or 鈥渃opy link鈥. If you forward the link to me, I will be able to access your completion report.
NOTE: All of the CITI program online course modules are self-paced and may be interrupted and resumed. Training time varies depending on your prior preparation and other factors, usually entailing up to nine hours. There is no cost to CGU-affiliated applicants for the use of this site.
HHS ethics training instructions (Faculty Only):
As an alternative to CITI trainings, Faculty have the option to complete ethics training through .
Lessons 1-3 are required.
NOTE: HHS.gov does not save progress or history of certificate completion. Make sure to save certificates offered at the end of each lesson.
